I found this to be a hard book for me to read. I rarely stop reading a book and just decide to be finished. This is one of the very few, I've just decided I couldn't read it anymore. Jason, the pro-tennis star, has a romance with Izzy, an up and coming artist. The story started out with a lot of promise but it ended just ok for me. I wanted so much from the book starting in the beginning, but a few things held it back. Jason started out being portrayed as a player. As the story developed he really wasn't. He was more a victim of the tabloids than anything. Izzy had some serious issues. Maybe it was because she was forced to be an adult too early in life, or maybe it was the pressure her father exerted for her to do well in tennis. She really was a contradiction. I liked how she took care of Nick and it showed how much she adored and loved him. I felt she put up with way too much crap from Sabrina. I also thought she had no faith in Jason, when she really should have. The one that shined was best-friend, Jessica! What a hoot!
There were a lot of issues that needed to be worked out, and Nana Malone did a pretty good job of delving into them. There may have been too many to tackle in one book to flow well. I liked the story well enough but I just didn't love it.
I listened to audiobook and the narrator spoke clear and concise. She portrayed each character as I saw them and I never was lost as to who was speaking. A joy to listen to!
3.5 stars/2.5 flames
Hurt does't last always, forgiveness brings about a end to stubborn pride. I really like this book, the language was mild yet it told a clear story. the black and white issue wasn't and issue at all. I didn't cringe at some of the language was not explicit at all. This helped me enjoy the book even more. The supporting character were right on point, although I was a little curious why she held on to Sabrina as a friend I kinda got that because of her son. But Simon that was a total confusion. As a woman myself he would have had to go long ago, go hook up with my friend or somebody. They had no chemistry what so ever, yet he had a little fire somewhere because if closet could talk. lol Enjoyed the book and the ending. Some ending leave you hanging but this one was all the way to the end Fantastic.
I have to say, this was one story I was not expecting.
I thought this would be like every other sport story that I've read.
The female main character meets a handsome rich sport athlete and they are either too weak to fight there charm, and gives in right away. Or a female character who holds off for a day to a day and a half, before she jumps into bed with him and then cannot live without him.
I have to say those types are books are sad and I try my best to avoid those, but this one was completely different, and I fell in love with this book.
Now the female lead is one, who needs to go to the other female characters I've read and push them stand up on there own two feet. The lead female in this book is Izzy Connors, and the Lead male is Jason, and Jason and Izzy used to know one another in college. In fact they used to be really friendly with one another, and was going to become a couple, if it weren't for Jason never showing up, and breaking his promise to Izzy. But he has his reasons why he never show up. BUT was it good enough for him to not only not show up, but also NEVER call izzy ever? I THINK NOT.
And when they come face to face with one another years later, izzy lets him know that exactly what is on her mind for what he's done.
This I have to say is one of my favorite part, and what I really love about Nana Malone, that yes this is fiction but there should be no reason why a female should just fall for a guy so easily. Esp one that stood her up! Izzy is a strong character that you can easily fall in love with, but I wish she could stand up earlier when it came to Serena ( Sorry If I got the name wrong, or spell it incorrectly.) But when she finally did put her foot down it was quite a sight, and had me shouting 'ABOUT TIME!"
This is one romance interracial that I would recommend, this is an amazing book. And I look forward to reading more of Nana Malone books, especially since she killed this book with her humor and romance antic.
It was a bit boring. The descriptions of the tennis matches were boring. There were some secrets in this story and yet I didn’t feel any drama. Much of the story felt like we as the reader were just treading water until the secrets could be revealed.
I actually didn’t like Jason or Izzy very much. They were both liars. Their lack of communication when it came to serious issues made me doubt their stability as a couple.
I found it difficult to believe that the paparazzi was camping around Jason’s house and following him around. I used to have a serious crush on Pete Sampras and so I used to follow tennis quite a bit. I even had a subscription to Tennis magazine. They were constantly lamenting the lack of popularity of tennis in America. Gossip magazines are simply not going to stalk an athlete that no one knows.
3 STARS I feel like this story was well written, but I just didn’t like it. It’s misleading to call it “humorous,” as this is not a comedy. There were a few amusing moments, but this story deals with racism and drug abuse. It’s not funny.
I found this to be a hard book for me to read. I rarely stop reading a book and just decide to be finished. This is one of the very few, I've just decided I couldn't read it anymore. The first two chapters did not catch me.
